In just ten days, one of the most groundbreaking and influential shows in the history of television returns after a 26-year absence! I’m of course talking about Twin Peaks – the suburban surrealist nightmare from the minds of David Lynch and Mark Frost.
I’m going to have the privilege of covering the new season for Yahoo TV, which as a Twin Peaks obsessive is a dream come true. I’ll be recapping each episode of Season 3, but any bonus tidbits or thoughts and theories that I don’t get to discuss on Yahoo, I’ll be posting here on Inside Telly.
And I’m kicking things off with the new teaser that was released earlier today by Showtime. The chilling trailer includes short snippets of the upcoming season featuring a selection of original and brand new cast members. Now, I’m as pumped to see the old faces as everyone else, but I’m perhaps even more excited about the new cast members. Lynch and his long-time casting director Johanna Ray have such a knack for spotting incredible talent.
So with that said, let’s have a look at the fresh faces from the latest teaser…
Sharing a surname with one of the show’s funniest characters – FBI Agent Albert Rosenfield – is already a good sign. Ben Rosenfield is a 24-year-old American actor best known for starring in HBO’s Boardwalk Empire where he played Willie Thompson, eldest son of Nucky’s brother Eli.
His role in Twin Peaks, like nearly everyone else in the cast, is unknown. In the clip above it sort of looks like he’s in an interrogation room.
31-year-old American actress Madeline Zima should be a recognizable face to anyone with a television set. As a child, she had a main role in the 90s sitcom The Nanny, and since then she’s popped up in a whole variety of shows, perhaps most memorably as Mia Lewis in Californication – where she starred alongside Twin Peaks‘ own David Duchovny.
Again, not much to tell from the brief clip, but her one line, “Try me,” suggests some potential Audrey Horne levels of seduction.
Leslie Berger is one of the lesser known names on the cast. An American stand-up comedian and actress, Berger’s roles previous to Twin Peaks tend to mostly be background work, such as Wife of Angry Man #3 in the movie Hancock and Speed Walker #2 in Nickelodeon’s iCarly (she seems to be putting that speed walking experience to work in the clip above).
According to Berger’s online resume, she was a “Day Player” on the new Twin Peaks, which basically means an actor with a supporting speaking role hired on a daily basis without a long-term contract. She appears to be in a hotel in the teaser, and is that a small Mexican chihuahua she’s walking?
Gia Carides (left) and Jessica Szohr (right)
The two brunettes sitting with Shelly Johnson (Mädchen Amick) appear to be Gia Carides and Jessica Szohr. Carides is a 52-year-old Australian actress who has starred in a long list of movies, perhaps most recognizable as Cousin Nikki in My Big Fat Greek Wedding and its various spin-offs. Szhor is a 32-year-old American actress most famous as Vanessa Abrams in The CW’s Gossip Girl. She’s also had central roles in TV series such as Kingdom and Complications.
In the teaser clip, it looks like Shelly has started a weekly wine club at the Roadhouse (although Shelly herself seems to be clutching a brewski). It’s unclear who the other blonde is as her face is obscured. Carides and Szohr have their attention on someone or something happening across the bar – is Bobby still getting into fights with bikers?
Nicole LaLiberte is a 35-year-old American model turned actress who has appeared in both television and film. Her first major role was as Lulu, a recurring character in HBO’s How To Make It In America, and more recently she played Arlene Schram, a minor role in the final two seasons of Showtime’s Dexter – but we won’t hold that against her.
LaLiberte has the longest line of dialogue in the teaser. Speaking on the telephone, in what seems to be a seedy motel room, she nervously tells the mysterious person on the other line: “He’s coming, I have to get off the phone.” There’s a very Teresa Banks in Fire Walk With Me vibe to this clip.
UnknownUPDATE 05/12/17: Kathleen Deming
Thanks to the good folks at Welcome To Twin Peaks, this mysterious woman has been identified as professional actress Kathleen Deming. Her only credits according to IMDB are a short titled No Vacancy, which is currently in post-production, and an appearance in the music video for Turbine Blue by Australian electronic group Seekae.
As I said yesterday, this lady has an immediate presence on screen and is classic Lynch casting. I can’t wait to see what her role is in the new season.
